Long eyelashes are a classic feminine trait and many women have gone to great lengths (pun intended) for longer eyelashes. Unfortunately, many treatments like eyelash extensions and growth serums can cause allergic reactions, infection or other problems. Of course, there is a genetic aspect to long eyelashes, but that doesn’t mean that those without the lucky genes can’t increase their eyelash length. Overuse of eye products, especially long-lasting mascaras or fake lashes can weaken lashes or lead to lash loss. My eyelashes are decently long but definitely not that dramatic, so I have been experimenting with natural ways to increase my eyelash length and thickness. Back in April, I experienced a horrible incident with eye lash extensions. Long story, short, I had an allergic reaction to the adhesive used to attach the lash extensions, and I had to immediately remove them (aka wet a cotton ball with olive oil). It left me with virtually zero lashes. Since, I have struggled with applying fake lashes and finding a product to promote lash growth! After trying a few products, and not being completely satisfied with the results, I turned to my trusty essential oils.
After sharing my lash results, so many people asked if there was a natural way to make fiber lash mascara or eyelash extensions. I’m yet to find a natural version of false eyelashes since most glues contain formaldehyde. Most fiber lash products also contain questionable ingredients. What I found was a natural way to make lashes look as long as fake lashes using only natural ingredients. Castor oil alone would give noticeable results, as it has been extremely helpful for lengthening and thickening my hair, but the addition of coconut oil (and/or emu oil & vitamin E) and Lavender essential oil give this serum a wider range of fatty acids and nutrients to help speed eyelash growth.
TIP: We recommend adding 1-2 drops of Lavender essential oil to mascara to speed eyelash growth.
DIY Lash Potion
In an empty 8oz mascara tube (can be purchased here), add:
If using Emu oil, we recommend using a 1:1 ration with castor oil and 2 capsules Vitamin E.
- Mix all ingredients and store in a small mascara tube (or small dropper bottle).
- To use, brush serum onto lashes.
- Use daily for best results (For even dramatic results, use morning and night)
TIP: This can also be used on eyebrows to help with thinning eyebrows.
This will last up to a year as long as it is kept in an air tight container and not contaminated with a liquid since it contains to water, aloe or other liquid ingredients that will spoil.
For best results, we also suggest simultaneously using our DIY lash serum with Young Living’s mascara, daily.
